FaZe Clan, CPH Flames advance to the second stage in Stockholm

First two teams are through to the next round.

First teams to make it through.

With the best of ones being left behind, it was time for the first stage at PGL Major Stockholm 2021 to start putting teams into the best of three series to either move on in the tournament or be eliminated from it altogether.

Virtus, pro, who did not look convincing yesterday but still won twice, decided to pick Mirage against FaZe Clan, which is one of their most comfortable maps. The international team started strong, taking a commanding “9-2” lead, but the CIS mix managed to reduce the deficit to only three at the break. FaZe Clan once again started with the pistol round victory, but VP turned the game on its head, taking the lead at “14-13” before the international team won the last three rounds to win the map, “16-14”. First Ancient of the tournament was more convincing for FaZe Clan, as they stormed to a “9-6” lead on the offence before sweeping VP on the defence for a “16-6”, “2-0” series win and a “3-0” result in the first stage to move to the next round.

Heroic looked to win the Copenhagen Flames’s pick of Vertigo, as they led “5-1”, but the Danish contenders switched to their defence with a one round lead before shutting Heroic’s offence out of the map, “16-7”. Heroic did not flinch despite the loss and trailing “2-5” on Nuke, as they equalized the set with a “16-11” map win before taking a “10-5” lead on Overpass. Copenhagen Flames, however, did not want to play extra games in the first stage, as they locked down the sites for a “16-12” comeback victory to win the series “2-1” and advance to top-16.

With two teams already through, there will be two more squads, which are going to be eliminated from the tournament later today, so stay tuned for more updates from Stockholm.
