G2 survive against Heroic, to the finals in Sweden

A blockbuster of a game.

The first semifinal at the event.

After a full set of the quarterfinal matches, PGL Major Stockholm 2021 has entered a semifinal stage with the likes of Heroic and G2 Esports clashing for a chance to debut in the Major finals.

A solid “6-1” start on the offence on Nuke gave Heroic a chance to switch to their defence with a one round lead, which was more than enough to secure the first map in the series, “16-12”. Another “6-1” for the Danes, this time on Mirage, ended up with the same outcome at the break, but a monstrous second half for G2 Esports gave the French-Balkan mix a lifeline in the series, equalizing the score after a “16-10” finish. Heroic had a “6-3” lead on Inferno before G2 Esports exploded for a ten round run, coming close to their first final. The Danish team did not tap out, however, as Heroic went on a run of their own, hitting the match point first before G2 survived to force out the overtime. Four rounds later it was all about the European mix celebrating, as G2 Esports won the map, “19-15”, the series, “2-1” and advanced to their third straight international LAN event final.

With the CIS derby taking place later in the day, G2 Esports will now have some time to prepare for the grand final in Stockholm, where they might be able to win their first Major championship since coming to CS:GO.
