G2 sweep NiP, to final four in Sweden

The European mix marches on.

The second match of the day.

Once PGL Major Stockholm 2021 finished with the first quarterfinal, it was time for the local favourites of Ninjas in Pyjamas to enter the stage and face their archrivals from G2 Esports, seeking their first semifinal appearance at the Majors.

Starting on Inferno, the Scandinavian team’s choice, G2 nearly ran the hometown heroes out of the building in the initial stages, as “NiKo” was everywhere and the French-Balkan mix led “12-3” at halftime. Down but not out, NiP started to build the comeback, as they reduced the deficit to two rounds at “11-13”, but a couple of unfavourable situations got turned out by “huNter-” and G2 Esports, who snatched the win, “16-11”. Moving to Mirage, teams traded rounds back and forth in the beginning, but it was G2 Esports taking a three round lead to the break. Ninjas in Pyjamas managed to secure the pistol round but a monstrous force buy from “NiKo” and G2 Esports gave them a chance to extend the lead and close out the map despite another late NiP’s rally, “16-11”, “2-0”.

With the highest ranked European team now out of the tournament, it will be either Heroic or G2 Esports getting to the final, with G2 possibly entering the third straight LAN final appearance against Natus Vincere if everything goes according to plan.
