Gambit eliminate FURIA, to the semifinals in Stockholm

The first CIS team in the semifinals.

The third quarterfinal of the tournament.

With Heroic and G2 Esports already making it through to the semifinals at PGL Major Stockholm 2021, it was time for the first Brazilian team since MIBR to make it to the top-8, FURIA Esports to clash against Gambit Esports, one of the favourites to win the entire thing.

Back and forth to start on Inferno, Gambit Esports looked as a force, switching with a three round lead to halftime. The CIS team kept going in the second half, as they hit match points being “15-11” up, but FURIA Esports somehow made it out of the regulation with a draw, forcing the overtime. The Brazilian team started with two convincing rounds and a favourable “5v3” in the third, but the PGL Major Krakow 2017 champions pushed through and secured the map at “19-17”, moving to Overpass. Despite FURIA Esports being up “6-5”, Gambit Esports still won their offensive half by one before the Brazilians went ahead again, “10-9”. That was all they could mount, however, as the CIS team locked down on their defence, winning the map, “16-10” and the entire series, “2-0”.
