EPL Group C before the Round 5

EPL Group C before the Round 5

Two spots in playoffs are still in play.

It is time to settle the standings in round five.

Fifth round of play is almost underway, so it is all about the upcoming fixtures which are going to decide, who is going to join Natus Vincere in ESL Pro League Season 14 as group C’s representatives and who is going to start preparing for the next event, be it a BLAST Premier Fall, IEM Fall or some other tournaments.

CIS squad themselves can still finish everywhere among the first three spots, as they are going to face off against FaZe Clan with the winner ending up with the first seed and a direct quarterfinal berth. Both dealt with Evil Geniuses and mousesports and while NAVI got crushed by BIG, the European mix faltered against Fnatic, which is why “karrigan”’s team can still be eliminated from the tournament entirely.

It remains to be seen what happens with the map pool, but very likely it is going to be similar to their IEM Cologne 2021 semifinal game, where, as “rain” said, “s1mple” has absolutely crushed them. So Inferno, Mirage and Dust2 is the expected outcome, but do not rule out the possibility of a random Ancient pick sneaking in or FaZe taking a wild Overpass gamble.

mousesports and BIG will clash in a German derby with a playoff spot on the line, but while mouz are going to advance with a win no matter what, BIG need either FaZe Clan or Evil Geniuses to produce an upset to keep themselves in the tournament. “ropz” and band rebounded after suffering two losses to open the event, as they took down both EG and Fnatic, while BIG gave NAVI its only loss so far, but got blown out by both Faze Clan and Fnatic.

Map pool can go anywhere in this best of three, but if their last match at Gamers Without Borders 2021 was any indication, then Mirage, Nuke and Vertigo are strong candidates to be played. An Overpass opener from mouz and BIG going for an earlier Vertigo will hardly be a surprise though, so we will see.

Last but not least, fnatic and Evil Geniuses will battle against each other with completely different goals in mind. fnatic need a win and a FaZe Clan loss to advance, while EG try to avoid joining Bad News Bears and G2 Esports in the “finished group play with a “0-5” group”.

Both Vertigo and Ancient will be removed in the first phase, while Inferno and Overpass are likely going to be picked early. Mirage looks to be a solid candidate to be a decider, as neither Nuke or Dust2 will make teams happy, but it might be an early pick with Overpass as a third map as well.
