NIP And Sprout in Legends, G2 and Astralis Won't Visit Major - European RMR Results

Which teams were the brightest?

The European RMR tournament has ended, and all participants in the IEM Rio Major have been determined. There were a lot of excellent results at the tournament, and teams unexpectedly made it to the main event of the second half of the season. So now you can sort through all the results and statistics to sum up the qualifiers for the Major.

The Biggest Failures

At the sight of this phrase, two teams immediately come to mind - Astralis and G2. The relegation of Astralis was somewhat obvious, but until the last moment, we did not want to believe that the major in Rio would be held without four-time champions. However, everything went to this. First, difficulties in the open qualifiers, which the Danes were able to pass only the fourth time, after that they were eliminated from the ESL Pro League in the group stage, and the k0nfig injury ended the series of failures, due to which the team had to take a replacement player from the academy. In addition, judging by the rumours, Astralis is having a split in the team because insiders have recently been increasingly reporting the signing of device, which most roster players are waiting for, which means it is impossible to show a high result in the current roster. The only bright spot in the team is blameF, who finished the tournament with an average rating of 6.5. We expect changes and better results. (Update: At the time of writing, it was officially announced that k0nfig was leaving Astralis).

G2 unexpectedly failed on RMR
G2 unexpectedly failed on RMR

And the departure of G2 definitely could not be expected. After the ESL Pro League, it seemed that HooXi was the perfect captain for this roster. With him, they can move mountains and get into at least the top 4 of the IEM Rio Major. And after that, the European team crashes with RMR with 1-3 statistics, losing to GamerLegion with a score of 2-1. And the only victory for G2 was the defeat of ECSTATIC with a score of 16-0. The team had no more achievements in this tournament. At the same time, it is not very easy to understand what exactly happened to the team. From the experience of past matches, it became clear that HooXi does not need to show an excellent individual game for G2 to win. At the same time, at the ESL Pro League, it seemed that jks found himself. However, having studied the RMR statistics, we can confidently say that the Australian did not finish the game again. Without considering the match with ECSTATIC, his average statistic was 5.6, which is an abysmal result for a defensive midfielder. It is possible that fatigue after the EPL affected individual form, but the result is highly deplorable, and we hope it will not become systemic.

Program Minimum

This list consists of teams that could not show anything outstanding but completed the minimum program and qualify for the IEM Rio Major.

Vitality finished with a 3-1 but failed to qualify for the Legends, losing to Heroic in a tie-break. Such a good score in the first stage was mainly due to the seeding, because of which they did not meet with solid teams, and, having met with the tier-1 team, Vitality fell and lost two maps with a score of 16-5, having fought only on Inferno, which the team finished 22-19 in their favour. What is the problem? Vitality won the ESL Pro League, showing that they are one of the best teams in the world. And the main problem of the European team was fluctuations in individual form. For example, 4 out of 5 players drop at different intervals: apEX, dupreeh, Magisk and Spinx - all of these players were at the bottom of the table at some point. To a lesser extent, this applies to Magisk and Spinx, because they played well in important moments, while dupreeh and apEX had obvious problems with the game. Their average ratings were 5.4 and 5.9, respectively. At the same time, such an assessment can be considered successful for the captain because his problems with individual play have been going on since BLAST Premier Fall Groups, and dupreeh has not shown a high level since joining Vitality. Again, the fatigue factor plays a critical role. After a month-long ESL Pro League, the team was exhausted and could hardly show such a game at RMR. However, the current form was enough to get into the Challengers Stage, and the program was at least completed.

Virtus.pro showed a mediocre level of play
Virtus.pro showed a mediocre level of play

Virtus.pro had a mediocre performance and managed to qualify for the Major, beating the Falcons and losing to every tier-1 team in their path. At the same time, problems with the game are observed in all players, except for Jame, who failed in only one BO1 series. The rest of the performers play extremely unstable, and it is impossible to single out any pattern in their form. A little more, and Virtus.pro could have been included in the list of the biggest disappointments, but they did it and made it to the Challengers Stage with a 3-2 statistic.

MOUZ are also close to disappointment because, after their brightest performance at the EPL, the fans expected more, and the team managed to reach the Major only with a score of 3-2. However, the results can be considered successful if you look at the teams that MOUZ met. The five performed well in the match against NaVi, losing 16-11, beating OG, and also competing with Vitality, finishing the game with a score of 2-1. MOUZ just had a very bad seed, so it's too early to talk about problems with the game, and the team will still show itself at the IEM Rio Major.

Cloud9 is a bit unlucky
Cloud9 is a bit unlucky

Cloud9 was just a little unlucky because they definitely had to go to the Legends stage, but they failed to cope with Spirit in the tie-break and remained in the Challengers Stage. Not much can be said about the team. Cloud9 is still showing an excellent game and will be favourites to get into the playoffs of the Major if they fix minor mistakes.

Even though it was the first time OG got to the Major, the result was natural. Even at BLAST Premier Fall Groups, it became clear that OG with degster can compete with the best teams in the world for victories. The team had every chance to get into the Legends but failed to win a crucial tie-break, so they only fulfilled the minimum plan and will start the tournament from the Challengers Stage. FlameZ stood out in particular, with an average score of 6.9.

The Biggest Surprises

In this part of the material, the teams that jumped above their heads and were able to surprise will be presented.

GamerLegion's entry into the IEM Rio Major is the most unexpected result of RMR. At the same time, it cannot be said that the collective path was simple. They fought against FaZe, losing 25-28, almost passed the Spirit, who finished the match 22-20, and also beat G2 in the BO3 series, which was the primary sensation of the event. A well-deserved place in the Challengers Stage, I especially want to highlight acoR, whose average rating is 6.6.

NIP triumphantly performed with the new line-up
NIP triumphantly performed with the new line-up

NIP didn't just change the roster before RMR but changed the captain while leaving the previous captain on the roster. The public was surprised by this decision because hampus clearly coped with its task, and the team lacked an excellent shooter, which Aleksib definitely was not. However, it turned out that this change was perfect for NIP, which improved the Swedish team's tactical game and unlocked the potential of hampus, who finished the tournament with an average rating of 7.4. And in combination with Brollan, with a rating of 7.2, the team's firepower was literally the best in the entire event. However, despite such a fantastic result, NIP still needs to solve the problem of the sniper, REZ is still not very confident with the AWP, and he needs to gain experience. If this is fixed, then NIP could become one of the favourites of the IEM Rio Major.

Little was expected from Sprout, even though the new line-up looked promising. However, a good line-up did not save the team from lousy seeding, which could spoil all plans. But the result was amazing - Sprout earned a place in the Major Legends. The team defeated forZe, Spirit, B8, and also competed with FaZe in the BO3 series, losing it with a score of 1-2. Sprout looked very confident, and refrezh clearly brought a lot of experience from Heroic, which helped the team. It is not yet clear how the team will perform at the IEM Rio Major, but the club has already made it to the top 16, which is the highest result for such an organization.

The triumphant return of Spirit left few people indifferent. Of course, the CIS team had a good seeding, but they also had a difficult tie-break with Cloud9, in which the team showed its best side. And this victory was mainly achieved thanks to w0nderful, who accelerated during the tournament and pulled out Spirit in the most important match, finishing it with a rating of 6.5. Also worth noting is Patsi, who shone the entire RMR and finished with a 6.7 average. So now it's safe to say that Spirit has recovered from the loss of degster and is ready to continue showing solid results.

Heroic successfully completed RMR
Heroic successfully completed RMR

It's not like Heroic really surprised the community with their entry into the Legends, but their endurance certainly deserves respect. After a 3-1 statistic, the team had to play a tie-break, and Heroic needed to win two matches to get into the list of the best RMR teams. And the Danes coped with it brilliantly, beating OG and Vitality.

ENCE started the second half of the year very weakly after the roster changes, and one could hardly expect 3-0 on RMR. However, the team did it. Of course, this result cannot be considered objective, and ENCE will have to be looked at from a long distance, but this may be the beginning of the team's triumphal march.

Top Teams

NaVi got back in shape
NaVi got back in shape

There are two tags in this list - FaZe and Natus Vincere. Of course, there are questions for FaZe because the European mix did not perform very confidently but still went to the IEM Rio Major with 3-0 statistics. At the same time, there can be no complaints against NaVi. The team finished all their matches with confident victories and domination. The best teams of the year's first half are gradually returning to form, and the major will definitely be interesting.
