Astralis, paiN advance to Round 4, GODSENT, YNG Sharks are out in Stockholm

A pair of the elimination games.

First teams to be eliminated from the event.

With FaZe Clan and Copenhagen Flames making it to the next round, the second day of the first stage at PGL Major Stockholm 2021 still had to eliminate two teams from contention.

Astralis, who have unexpectedly dropped both games yesterday, started strong against GODSENT on Nuke, as they absolutely demolished the Brazilian team on the offence, winning the half “13-2” before closing it on the defence, “16-3”. Vertigo looked to be nearly the same, as the Danes led “10-5” at halftime, but GODSENT managed to reduce the deficit to only two rounds, trailing “11-13”. That, however, was the end for the talented lineup, as Astralis closed the match with three rounds to win the map “16-11” and the entire series, “2-0”, staying alive in the event.

A Brazilian derby between paiN Gaming and Sharks Esports started on Vertigo, as both teams traded rounds back and forth. paiN Gaming were the first to hit match point, but YNG Sharks forced an overtime and then won the map, “19-16”. Ancient looked to be trending the way of Sharks as well, as the South American team led “15-9”, but paiN Gaming managed to tie the game in regulation to go into another set of overtimes. Sharks then got another three match points, leading “18-15”, but that was not enough either, as their local rivals won the map, “22-20”, forcing a decider. Nuke, which started “4-4”, however, turned into “16-4” win for paiN Gaming, who won twelve in a row to win the series, “2-1” and continue their campaign at the PGL Major.

With two teams already out, the Swedish event is going to eliminate three more tomorrow, as round four will feature six more best of three sets to set up the deciding round five.
