CIS Failure at IEM Cologne
What happened to the CIS teams?
The group stage of IEM Cologne has ended, and it ended in an extremely unpredictable way. Three of the four CIS teams left the tournament without even reaching the group finals. So what happened to the teams? Is it worth waiting for changes?
Virtus.pro
The failure of Virtus.pro is natural
The failure of Virtus.pro is a natural event. After the changes in the roster, the team's results fell sharply. The team had problems even in the tier-2 tournaments. Even Jame, the team captain, spoke about it. He talked about the difficulties in rebuilding the team after two substitutions. And these difficulties can be traced to statistics. According to statistics, in the group stage, Virtus.pro played two matches and ultimately failed. The highest personal rating for these matches was 6.2 and belonged to Jame. Other players did not show a rating higher than 5.5. After the exit from the tournament, Jame wrote: "So far, this is our maximum."
Spirit
About the failure of Spirit, you can say that they were unlucky with the schedule. They started the group stage well, beating Liquid, but then fell to FaZe. And the team spent a lot of effort on the European team. However, at the same time, Spirit showed a decent game. Even w0nderful joined the team at this tournament. However, magixx, the team leader for the whole tournament, failed in that match, losing with a score of 2-0. After this defeat, Spirit's game got worse, and against FURIA, all the players failed in the rating. Not one of them got a rating higher than 5.8. Of course, starting a tournament with a newcomer was challenging, but Spirit managed it, but they could not calculate the strength for the entire tournament, which led to relegation.
Cloud9
And the departure of Cloud9 is an extraordinary and unpredictable event. Most recently, the team won IEM Dallas, beat the best teams in the world in the playoffs, and at IEM Cologne, the team won only one match in the group stage. This failure cannot be considered as something systemic. The only thing that stands out is nafany's individual game. In two matches out of three, the Cloud9 captain dropped out, finishing them with ratings of 4 and 4.6. Nafany even took personal responsibility for the defeat: "I was not so good at this tournament as a captain." Most likely, the result of Cloud9 was affected by fatigue, and this cannot be called a trend. The team could not play the tournament at a high level, which was inherent to it.
Will there be changes in rosters?
You can confidently answer that the answer is no. Virtus.pro only made two changes, and the new changes will not help them. The same can be said about Spirit because the team just got a new sniper, who performed well at his first LAN. And Cloud9 failed only because of fatigue. Their level of play is higher than the one they showed at IEM Cologne.
