Copenhagen Flames closed due to bankruptcy

Copenhagen Flames esports organization has gone bankrupt and laid off its staff, ceasing to exist 7 years after its founding in 2016.

The organization's CEO, Steffen Thomassen, stated that the organization was unable to find investors - two weeks ago, a sum of $740,000 was mentioned that should have been enough "to strengthen the club's financial foundation and initiate a series of initiatives to ensure profitability in 2024 and in the years to come."

Copenhagen Flames had two CS:GO teams, including a female team called Flames Shieldmaidens. The club qualified for the major twice in its history: the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 and the PGL Major Antwerp 2022, finishing 5-8th in the latter.

Consequences for the Danish scene

Copenhagen Flames, as well as Tricked, were a kind of springboard for promising young Danish players aspiring to Tier-1, performing better than Astralis' academy. Notable players from CPH Flames include refrezh, HooXi, TeSeS, nicoodoz, roeJ, and others. The long-term closure of these two organizations will be a significant blow to Heroic, which does not have its own youth roster, and to a lesser extent to Astralis.
