Jason Lake's CS Revival LAN Tournament: North American - Dream Postponed

Jason Lake's plan to revitalize the North American CS2 scene with a May LAN tournament suffers a setback due to sponsorship delays.

Complexity Gaming owner Jason Lake has announced that the planned Complexity-based LAN tournament, intended to be a celebration of the North American CS2 scene, has unfortunately been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The tournament, which was set to take place ahead of IEM Dallas 2024, was announced earlier this year as a four-team event aimed at reigniting interest in CS2 in North America.

LAN Tournament Delay

Lake and Complexity were forced to postpone the event until later this year due to limited time for its organization. In recent months, Lake and his team have been extremely busy, which is likely the primary cause of the delay.

In late 2023, Lake embarked on a "roadshow," visiting Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other cities, in search of investors to buy back Complexity from GameSquare. In March 2024, Lake, backed by a group of private investors, successfully repurchased Complexity for $10.36 million, ending the search for a new home for the team. Immediately after, Lake traveled to Copenhagen to support his team at the PGL Major Copenhagen.

Online Alternative

Despite the LAN tournament's postponement, the news isn't all glum. Lake has announced a partnership between Complexity and Mythic to host an online event in mid-May. Mythic, known for its expertise in running cups, will utilize its skills to organize the online tournament as compensation for the delayed LAN. While the details of the online event are yet to be revealed, they are expected to be announced soon, as IEM Dallas 2024 is just 40 days away.

Lake Remains Committed to His Vision

While the LAN tournament's delay is undoubtedly a disappointment for CS2 fans in North America, Lake remains steadfast in his commitment to reviving the scene. The online event in partnership with Mythic will serve as a step in the right direction, with the LAN tournament still expected to take place later this year.

It is hoped that Lake's enthusiasm and his team's will be contagious to the CS2 community in North America and inspire a new resurgence of the beloved game.
