Rumor: Valve is planning to hold the second major of 2024 in Shanghai

As rumors suggest, in December 2024 we are expecting the second major tournament for Counter-Strike 2, which will be held in active collaboration with leading gaming companies Perfect World and PGL. Exclusive details about the planned event were leaked from sources at Dust2.com.br. The grand event is scheduled to take place in the spectacular city of Shanghai, China.

As reported, the organization of this major will be undertaken by Perfect World, the publisher of Counter-Strike in China, with the support of PGL, which was responsible for the first major of 2024 within CS2.

According to the latest data, the RMR qualifier tournaments, which are a preliminary stage of the major, are planned for the period from October 26 to November 13, and the major itself will take place from December 1 to 15. Based on the chosen date, it can be assumed that Valve has decided to hold a series of majors in 2025-2026, and these grand tournaments will now take place in mid-June and early December each year.

This means that if the plans are successfully implemented, the PW CS2 major in Shanghai will be a historic event - the first major held in Asia.

Previously, options for holding the second major of 2023 in Asia, including China and Singapore, were considered, but at the time these ideas were postponed due to preparation for the anticipated release of Counter-Strike 2. Now, as this has become a reality, the entire gaming world is eagerly awaiting this mega-event, which will undoubtedly bring pleasure to both participants and spectators.

Recall that earlier, IEM in 2022 wanted to hold IEM China in China, but the project was quickly shut down for unknown reasons.
