Russian esports tournament RCL canceled: teams refuse to participate

February 10, 2024 - The Russian Cyber League (RCL) tournament has been officially canceled. This occurred after a number of teams, including the Swiss club Permitta with a Polish lineup, refused to participate in it.

Permitta publicly stated their position, writing on Twitter:

"After recent revelations about the organizers, we have decided to cease our participation in this event. We express solidarity with Ukraine and firmly distance ourselves from organizations associated with the Russian government.

In response, the RCL organizers published a post where they:

- Confirmed the cancellation of the RCL.

- Stated that the RCL is a private project, not affiliated with the state.

- Denied any connection of the RCL with "Future Games".

- Expressed understanding of the position of the teams that refused to participate.

- Announced plans to make adjustments to the RCL project for its further development.

The cancellation of the RCL became a significant event in esports. It became a clear response from the community to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

It is worth noting that the RCL is not the first esports tournament to be canceled due to the political situation.

This indicates that esports, like any other sport, cannot be separated from politics.
