The organizers postponed the Copenhagen Games for the fourth time - all due to a lack of sponsors

One of the legendary tournament series met obstacles.

The organizers of the LAN tournament Copenhagen Games announced the cancellation of the event due to lack of sponsors, postponing it indefinitely. The authorities of Copenhagen wanted to provide financial assistance, but apart from them there was no one.

The championship was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic and last year's championship did not take place due to a lack of funding.

The champion of the last tournament of the series was forZe, who defeated Sprout in the final.

Copenhagen Games have been held annually since CS 1.6 and CS:S. Eminent clubs were taking part in them, including NIP, TSM, SK, as well as Ukrainian organizations NAVI and HellRaisers. Since 2013, a separate tournament has been held for women's teams.

Initially, the prize pool was about $30,000, but in 2018 and 2019 it was raised to $100,000.

The postponement of the event happened due to the backdrop of rumors about a recession in the eSports market and cuts in organizations. According to journalist Jacob Wolfe, Liquid has previously fired at least 40 people, and FaZe shares are not trading at 75 cents against $20 on the day of the exchange. What other series of tier-2 tournaments can actually cease to exist only the future will show.
